Galileo clock ticks
Article Abstract:
It is unlikely that European Transport Ministers would veto Europe's Galileo program during their meeting in Dec 2000 due to low level of investment accorded by European nations on Galileo. The transport ministers would more likely defer decision on Galileo until greater support for the program from its users becomes more evident. The program, officially called the Global Navigation Satellite System, was launched in 1998 to provide European countries with a non-military satellite-based navigation system patterned after the US' Global Positioning System.
