William the unflappable

Article Abstract:

Leader of the British Conservative party, William Hague, is calm, clever and affable, though he is sometimes represented in the press as an accident-prone loser. Hague argues that he is not against being a European, but that he seeks greater flexibility with the enlargement of the EU. He plans to cut taxes and spend more on health and sees these goals as compatible, together with plans to reduce welfare fraud and take away unemployment benefit to unemployed people refusing a job.

Don't be vague

Article Abstract:

William Hague, John Redwood and Kenneth Clarke are all seeking the leadership of the British Conservative party. Hague is the likely winner because of his youth, loyalty and political connections. If he does win, his greatest challenge will be to restore the Tory's image as viable party.

Gambling on William Hague

Article Abstract:

The victory of William Hague in the British Conservative leadership election signals that the party is more divided than ever and that Hague will need a lot more than charm and glib to unite the Tories. The British Conservative Party is now being run by a relatively young politician and his youthfulness may prevent him from gaining the support of older, experienced politicians within the party who believe that they should be run by an experienced leader.
