German shops connect with $60m Deutsche Telekom win

Deutsche Telekom of Germany, a fixed-line telephone monopoly has chosen Springer & Jacoby Hamburg to handle its image account, with Spiess Ermisch Andre (SEA) Duesseldorf handling below the line activities. This is a blow to the company's established agencies Lintas Hamburg and BBDO Duesseldorf, and the review followed the apointment of Ron Sommer as chairman. The company is attempting to reduce costs in preparation for deregulation in the telephone market in 1998.

Sprint/Atlas telecom venture calls Grey for $50m account

Article Abstract:

Grey has won a $50 million global promotions contract from Atlas, a joint venture of Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom and Sprint which plans to provide telecommunications services to corporate customers. Grey won the account against competition from J. Walter Thompson, DDB Needham and Publicis, and will also be responsible for work for Sprint's international callling card. Atlas is currently seeking government approval in the US and the European Union.

Grey, O&M split SmithKline's $474m global account

Article Abstract:

SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare (SBCH) has appointed Ogilvy & Mather (O&M) and Grey to manage its $474 million account. O&M is to handle analgesics and gastrointestinal business, while Grey will be responsible for cough/cold preparations, oral healthcare products, skin products, Horlicks and Ribena. The brands to be handled by Grey make up more than half of the value of the SmithKline account.
