Southern California's chronic lack of airport space will only get worse as air traffic picks up again following the lull after the Sep 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The biggest argument concerns proposals to convert the former marine base at El Toro into a civilian airport.

The world airline sector was suffering even before the Sep 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the US, and the attacks must not be used as an excuse for government interference and bail-outs. Restructuring and deregulation is what is needed.
