Container carrier consolidation continues
Article Abstract:
Ocean container carriers and shippers have lowered their prices. The low ocean-shipping rates are attributable to several factors including the deregulation of the industry. The combination of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act and the abolition of Capacity Management Programs has created a competitive rate market. Another factor affecting rates is the continuing consolidation of the major ocean carriers which is part of their struggle for survival.
