Buyout boom and a fear of failure
Article Abstract:
The 1996 Acquisitions Monthly conference included several speakers who had direct expertise in the financial investment markets many of whom predicted out that the unwarranted high expenditure on buyouts will cause business failures during 1996-1999. Other speakers spoke out against the policy of looking to Europe to make a quick profit due to the intensive competition in the United Kingdom. This would be unlikely to work in the short term as deals in Europe were scarce although Germany showed promise for the future.

Gordon Bonnyman interview
Article Abstract:
Gordon Bonnyman of Charterhouse Development Capital says that the cutting speech he gave at a recent management buyout conference was truthful and a realistic assessment of the state of the buyout market. He believes that there is a danger that the problems of the 1980s could re-emerge if venture capitalists pay excessive prices for mediocre companies. He concludes that the current fashion for high yield bonds is dangerous because it fuels the ability for venture capitalists to overpay for companies.
