Neuhaus, the Belgian chocolate company, made a turnover of BFr 1.857bn for its 1997-1998 fiscal year, ended 30 June 1998, up 17.5% from the preceding year. Changes in structure (consolidation of the Martial stores over one year) are responsible for 4.9% of this rise, 1.5% is to the rise in the Belgian franc compared with other currencies, and 11% is due to internal growth. The group makes 48% of it sales from the line sold under its name, 36% with the Jeff de Bruges franchise, 8% with the Mondose line, and 8% with the Union brand. The group is going to invest in the commercial, industrial, data processing domains as part of a restructuring.

In 1997, Generali Belgium posted a 6.6% increase in turnover to BFr 9.43bn. The life-insurance operations reported a 10% increase in turnover whilst the non-life branch enjoyed a 4.9% increase. These results do not take into account some Belgian subsidiaries and Generali's Luxembourg operations. In Belgium, Generali makes a BFr 11.54bn turnover via Generali Belgium, Europae, Generali Luxembourg and Europ Assistance in which the firm has a 60% stake. In 1997, Generali Belgium developed its industrial risk operations which reported a 17% increase in turnover. Generali Belgium reported a BFr 286mn net profit - a 18% increase from 1996.

P&V increased its profit to over BFr 1bn in 1997 from BFr 290mn in 1996. The Belgian insurer's main entity, P&V Assurances, which includes the Luxembourg-based branch, contributed to BFr 989mn, compared to BFr 177mn in 1996. The company collected BFr 9.14bn in premiums, down compared to BFr 9.47bn in 1996. P&V Caisse Commune, another entity, will grant a 16.5% discount to those of its members who did not suffer any loss in 1997. The group has another entity, P&V R assurance. P&V ranks among the largest ten insurance companies in Belgium.
