Gulf-war aftermath - building up to a construction bonanza

Article Abstract:

The end of the Persian Gulf War has resulted in a construction boom in Kuwait. The cost of rebuilding the country's infrastructure may be more than $100 billion, and US firms have won 70% of the contracts awarded so far. US firms that have previous experience in government contracting will find the negotiation process easier than firms without experience. Iraq could pay off its international debt and reparations in seven years if it can produce between two-and-a-half and three million barrels of oil per day, which, at $20 a barrel, would generate $25 billion per year. This is unlikely as long as the country is involved in a civil war, and it will be several years before Iraq regains its pre-war production capacity because Allied forces destroyed 80% of the country's oil refining capability.

The Building Blocks for Good Leadership

Article Abstract:

There is a tendency to believe that leaders are born rather than made. This assumption is highly questionable. Leadership is teachable. A trainable leader has intelligence, aptitude, character and integrity. A leader should reflect his group's attributes. He should be trustworthy and moral. He is expected to set an example. A leader is a risk-taker and uses his imagination. In a survey of successful chief executives, ability to make decisions was first-ranked in a list of valuable top management attributes.
