HOTEL MAJORS MAKE A BEELINE FOR SINDHUDURG

Article Abstract:

Sindhudurg, a beach region in Maharashtra is to be developed at a cost of Rs328 crore. Of this Rs235 crore will be invested by the private sector. The hotel groups, Taj and Cidade de Goa plan to set up five star hotels at a cost of Rs70 crore each in Sindhudurg. The Oberoi chain plans to establish a Rs50 crore hotel project. Nearly 20 sites across 20 beaches have been selected. Tourist sites have been grouped together to form five nodes, Malvan, Vengurla, Amboli, Sawantwadi and Mithbav. Each node will have accommodation, communication and medical facilities. The government plans to invest Rs85.91 crore in two phases in 2001 AD and in 2007 AD. Road development is expected to cost Rs51.67 crore, water supply Rs22 crore and power supply Rs12.25 crore. (nr)

INTER-CONTINENTAL HOTELS EYEING INDIA'S PALACES

Article Abstract:

Inter-Continental Hotels, a global chain of 200 hotels and resorts in 77 countries, is thinking of converting India's palaces into convention centres. It is negotiating with former rulers who own such palaces. The hotel group has said that it may not invest in the conversion of the palaces as it is not its core business. It may negotiate with financial institutions to provide consortium funding for the projects. (khr)

HILTON PLANS SECOND FORAY INTO INDIA

Hilton, a leading player in the global hotel sector, proposes to venture into India for the second time. It has planned a series of management tie-ups with leading hotels in the country. The group is eyeing properties in the four metros and smaller cities like Goa and Jaipur. Hilton is also examining the possibility of tying-up with new hotel projects being built in the country.
