Hard times for hardware; the CAD/CAM show
Article Abstract:
The CAD/CAM show, held in Birmingham, England in March 1992 reflected continuing developments in computer aided design and manufacturing hardware. While the pen plotter remains the predominant output device and is becomming faster and more versatile, other printing and plotting technologies are gaining ground. These include ink jet and bubble jet printers as well as electrostatic plotters. Other new products included drawing management software, applications for the Advanced Computing Environment standard, laptop computers, CD-ROM and multimedia software.

Scene on the screen
Article Abstract:
Large CAD system companies, such as AutoCAD, which attended the ICAT exhibition, are concentrating on developing equipment for collaboration between teams. Wide area networking is usually conducted via the Internet or ISDN. However, there are worries about security on the Internet and also the time it takes to access it. Cadweb offers a solution to this problem by providing a network infrastructure. AutoCAD is selling AutoCad LT97 for 430 pounds sterling. IntelliCAD will be available in April 1998 for 400 pounds.
