Article Abstract:

Businesses with high IQs are 45% more likely to perform well than those with low IQs, according to a survey of more than 600 international senior executives undertaken by management consultancy Strategic Decisions Group. Underperformance may be a particular problem for companies with IQs of less than 90. The consultancy devised a measurement of company IQ based on nine criteria, including continual learning and value-creation culture. The research indicated large variations in IQ within industry sectors.

A new dawn for Scottish business(devolution and Scottish business)

Article Abstract:

Devolution is planned for Scotland and has popular support, but many businessmen are concerned about the impact on their companies. A change in attitudes has become apparent as many members of the Institute of Directors from Scotland are considering standing as candidates for the Scottish parliament. There are concerns that income tax may rise but this has not deterred many foreign investors. There is an argument that devolution could give rise to a more responsible attitude to the power to raise taxes.

Wales breathing fire into the dragon: Devolution in Wales is a more muted affair than in Scotland, but the repercussions for economic development may be far-reaching

Article Abstract:

Wales is experiencing a minor renaissance, with changes coming in the form of a Welsh assembly. However backing for devolution is more subdued in Wales than in Scotland, possibly due to the weakness of the assembly, which will have neither primary legislative or tax-raising powers. The main concerns are that the Welsh assembly should improve the business environment, with more resources going towards nurturing small and medium-sized companies.
