Article Abstract:

Stock prices have risen in Latin America, but turnover has been affected by acquisitions by foreign companies and by stocks being traded in the US. Stockmarket liquidity has been helped through privatizations in some countries. Privatizations could be carried out in small blocs, in order to increase liquidity, and this is a route considered by Brazil for its sale of a Petrobras stake. Stock exchanges could also be merged in Latin America, though company law would hve to be harmonized.
