Article Abstract:
The National Museum of Photography, Film and Television opened in 1983 in Bradford, England. Its mix of history, technology and entertainment, which includes an Imax cinema, has proved popular, and museum directors commissioned architects Austin-Smith: Lord to extend and refurbish what was initially a second-hand building. The refurbishment focussed on improving visitor facilities, storage, and linkage of areas. However, the construction of a new glazed frontage for additional foyer space has made a dramatic difference to the already-imposing external architecture.
