A new ordinance in Beaufort, SC, prohibiting 'loud and unseemly noise' is being aimed at street preachers who speak in front of shopping areas. Several have been arrested, and the case is being taken to federal court where the law will be challenged as denying the freedoms of speech and religion.

Currency market speculation caused the British pound to drop in value and jeopardize Britain's membership in the exchange-rate mechanism (ERM). Britain should have raised interest rates earlier to defend the pound. The ERM should be preserved, since currencies would still be unstable without it.
