Honeymoon in Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's economic policy as set out by Tung Chee-hwa, involves a move toward a more interventionist approach. There are doubts as to whether the measures he proposes are necessary, and there is concern about where they could lead to. Provision of government-built housing may not be as efficient as more land sales by the government, especially since Hong Kong has a high average per capita income. Incentives to attract business could be counter productive since the most desirable businesses should be attracted without such measures.
