Pipe dreams: Hongkong Telecom and Wharf battle for multimedia

Article Abstract:

In the struggle between Hongkong Telecom and Wharf Cable's New T&T to roll out multimedia services and grab related market share, most analysts give the edge to Hongkong Telecom. The former monopoly has more experience and a head start, as well as a more open and apparently effective management style led by Cambridge-educated William Lo. Stephen Ng of Wharf must contend with more internal mistrust and confusion. Though Hongkong Telecom has had to postpone its multimedia and movies-on-demand launch, Wharf has cable TV troubles.
