Hong Kong market still has its fans
Article Abstract:
Most fund managers are planning to invest their money in Hong Kong stocks, which increased to 34% in the Hang Seng Index in 1996. A survey shows that the colony accounts for 31%-37% of recommended allocations for the Asian stock-market portfolios in 1997, followed by Malaysia and Singapore. Analysts believe that Hong Kong's transition to Chinese rule in July 1997 will have a positive rather than a negative impact on stocks. Hong Kong is also predicted to benefit from positive US-interest rate trends and China rapid economic growth.

Singapore gets listing lesson
Article Abstract:
The Singapore Exchange is considering listing itself if the market conditions are right. Singapore is not as fortunate as the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing which brings in considerable revenue from service fees charged to mainland China companies that list in Hong Kong. Analysts believe the future of the Singapore Exchange is uncertain, and some suggest an alliance with the Australian Stock Exchange might be beneficial to both sides.
