Hot stuff; Shobha De's bawdy tales of Bombay are set to go global

Article Abstract:

Shobdha De is one of India's most popular writers who has sold more than 300,000 English-language copies of her books in India. Her novels are filled with sex and scandal and she is regularly panned by critics. The former model and Times of India columnist writes commercial fiction about middle-class life in urban India. In 1995 De wrote a soap opera for Indian television called Swabhiman which will air in 524 episodes. Simon and Schuster will distribute her books in the UK and the US.

The department store Pace, in Lahore, Pakistan, offers a variety of commodities while providing teenagers an opportunity to meet and find romance. Young customers and shop staff enjoy the opportunity to socialize. The store offers a range of products, including designer clothes, pastries, and produce. Owners of smaller stores in Lahore are concerned about their loss of sales.

Drug the infidels

Article Abstract:

Afghanistan's drug policy discourages domestic consumption but encourages the export of its poppy-farming products. This tactic is employed for the Islamic fundamentalist government to gain legitimacy in international politics. Much of Afghanistan foreign exchange is generated through the trade of opium.
