Affordable housing in rural areas

Article Abstract:

UK local authorities are being urged to step up the provision of low-cost housing in rural areas. There is little cash help available for these authorities to build or renovate such housing. There is a great social need for such housing, which would prevent migration from villages and help preserve local services and communities. An 'exceptions policy' has been developed to expedite affordable housing in rural communities.

Affordable housing; the private sector perspective

Article Abstract:

UK government policy has been to reduce local authority housebuilding, and for the private sector to make up any shortfall. An estimated two million new homes are likely to be needed by 2001, out of a likely supply of 1.2 million.
