A variety of methodologies for stimulating innovation in business have been developed, and while Europe is falling behind in industrial innovation, European managers are interested in methods of encouraging innovation. When evaluating these techniques, managers should: avoid dismissing the methods as little more than common sense; consider the abilities and talents of those who will be implementing the methods; keep the implementation positive; make workers understand that innovation should be a never-ending process; consider the roots of the problems the company hopes to solve with the techniques; and evaluate the company's procedures for judging innovations.

Anthony Jay, co-founder along with four other writers and actors of Video Arts Ltd., has succeeded in the business of training-film production by injecting humor into the proceedings. The foremost star of the films is John Cleese, another Video Arts co-founder and one of the cast of Monty Python. Video Arts is now considered among the best training film producers in the world, and it has seen revenues grow from $82,800 in the first year of operation (1972) to annual levels of approximately $5.5 million. The process of creating humorous training films and the problems involved in getting comedy writers to write on technical subjects are described.

The use of computers in training programs by various companies is examined. Companies have been slow in using computer-assisted learning systems. With the introduction of the microcomputer and less expensive computers more companies are purchasing them for their in-house management. The benefits of computer-assisted training programs are examined.
