IA LANDS IN DOUBLE TROUBLE
Article Abstract:
Indian Airlines (IA) had announced double mileage points scheme on metro routes for frequent flyers. However, its partner in the flying returns scheme, Air India (AI), is unhappy because frequent flyer points are very often redeemed on AI's foreign routes. This implies additional revenue for IA, but additional expense for AI to redeem the points. Frequent flyer points are redeemed when a passenger completes 30,000 miles of flying either by AI or IA. Another aspect of the scheme, which has drawn attention, is the omission of four Mumbai-Delhi and one Delhi- Hyderabad flights, all of which are popular flying routes, on the grounds of being overbooked. Questions are being raised about possible discrimination. (nr)

SAHARA SPRUCES UP VALUE-ADDED SERVICE
Article Abstract:
To compete with the Indian Airlines (IA), Sahara Airlines (SA) has restructured its frequent flyer programme (FFP). Under its FFP programme, the airline offers free international tickets for frequent travellers, scoring a specified number of points. Accordingly, if a person gets 30,000 points, he can claim for a free ticket, worth Rs30,000, to any destination in the world. SA plans to set up entertainment cells in major cities where it operates. The cell will provide information to FFP members about plays, restaurants, fairs and events in the cities they are visiting. (gs)
