Indian Airlines says that it has developed a number of international markets like the Gulf region and is now looking at developing markets in south east Asia. It plans to start flights from Calcutta to Hong Kong and increase flight frequency from Chennai to Bangkok and on the Chennai-Kuala Lumpur route. One of the priorities of the airline is to channelise air traffic from Uttar Pradesh to international destinations. The airline currently uses 29-30 percent of its total capacity on international routes. (khr)

VIBANK HOUSING PROFITS JUMP BY 79%

Vibank Housing Finance, the house finance lending subsidiary of Vijaya Bank, has posted 79 percent increase in net profit to Rs89.76 lakh (Rs50.28 lakh in 1996-97). Operating profit increased by 131 percent to Rs2.87 crore (Rs1.24 crore). Cumulative sanctions were Rs25.74 crore and disbursements were Rs21.89 crore. Its deposit base has increased to Rs10.34 crore (Rs3.15 crore). (gs)
