Ice-white warfare
Article Abstract:
Ernest Shackleton carried out an expedition in the Antarctic which lasted two years, from 1914 to 1916, and involved the vessel being stuck in the ice. Shackleton was forced to find help, and had to leave some of his men behind until they could be rescued. No-one died, and the explorers had not realized that a war had broken out and had been waged for the two years that they were away. The American Museum of Natural History is attracting large audiences with an exhibition based on this adventure.
