US/Turkey sign investment agreement
Article Abstract:
Turkey has forged a new trade agreement with the US that it hopes will bring in new investment opportunities and help it create and develop an international zone in the southeastern region. The Turkish government withdrew a request for a $5-billion loan to help the nation rebuild after a devastating earthquake in 1999 because it did not feel the US Congress would approve the request. Government officials believe that they can rebuild, without US aid, through the assistance of the International Monetary Fund and Wolrd Bank.
