International economy: Africa

Article Abstract:

Political unrest in Africa has hampered attempts at economic reform and it has disrupted progress which has already been made. The Democratic Republic of Congo has experienced severe political disruption and this has affected its economy badly. The conflict is likely to spread into Sudan and Chad. Foreign investors are reluctant to operate in the region because of the problems. South Africa is best able to strengthen its economy but its foreign policy is disappointing because it has not dealt effectively with Nigeria or Zaire.
