Why you must have it in writing

Article Abstract:

Architects should maintain detailed written records of a project, since this will help their case significantly if they are involved in a legal dispute, a situation which is becoming more common. It is hard for an architect to convince the adjudicator that the architect's version of events is the true one if he has only oral evidence to offer, so the architect should be able to produce the relevant documentary evidence. This may include records of the architect's appointment, the various design stages, survey data, and talks with producers, trade bodies and specialists.
