Iran's foot in the Afghan wars

Article Abstract:

There is a danger of a massacre within Afghanistan, where the Shia Muslims are at risk from the Sunni Taliban, and of a regional war arising from Iranian action. The US and Iran should cooperate on this issue. The US was once an indirect backer of the Taliban. Iran accuses the US of backing genocide and plans action against the Taliban. Iran sees the US as motivated by the desire to open a route for petroleum and gas to the sea through Pakistan from Central Asia, without using Iran. This view of continued US support for the Taliban does not fit in with US strikes on camps in Afghanistan.
