Islam's Arab backlash
Article Abstract:
Islamic radicalism became important following the Islamic revolution in Iran, and has since diminished in importance, while many governments have sought to control both militant Islamic groups, and political activity by those groups. Meanwhile, Islamic fundamentalism has tended to focus on customs and laws that uphold men's privileges, and involved censorship of the media. Greater freedom givien to political Islam could help the social development of Arab countries.
