The state-supported airlines of New Caledonia, Fiji, Western Samoa, and other island nations are undergoing severe financial difficulties in the recession of 1992. Air Caledonie may lose as much as $7 million in 1992, while Fiji-based Air Pacific faces competition from small state-owned carriers.

Article Abstract:
Civil uprisings in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea have resulted in violence that have spread to the Solomon Islands. An agreement between the two countries to end the violence is being threatened by raids upon the Solomons by Bougainville rebels.
