Jones Apparel to cut 12% of jobs at Nine West business

Article Abstract:

Jones Apparel Group Inc. announced that it is shutting down three factories and a Nine West administrative office. Nine West is Jones Apparel's newly-purchased footwear business. The move will downsize 1,910 jobs from Nine West. This represents 12% of the business's labor force. Approximately 1,170 workers in the Dominican Republic will be impacted by the move, as well as 550 workers in Kentucky and Indiana.

While sales of women's clothing from fashion designers are low, designer fashion accessories, such as, handbags and shoes, are high. Major fashion houses have changed their focus to their accessories lines from their clothing lines.
