A country by any other name: Greece and Macedonia

The new country of Macedonia has faced opposition for 15 months from its neighbor Greece over its name. Greek citizens in the north province of Macedonia fear that if the former Yugoslavian province is allowed to keep that name, it will press claims on the Greek region.

Macedonia has a legitimate right to autonomy and has enough problems with its economy and ethnic rivalry without having to deal with obstreperous neighbors such as Greece. Greece claims it has a historic right to use the name Macedonia.
