Kone liittoutuu japanilaisyhti n kanssa
Article Abstract:
The Finnish lift and escalator manufacturer Kone will team up with the Japanese electrical engineering manufacturer Toshiba. The cooperation is to help strengthen the companies' position in the global markets. The ownership of the companies is not affected. Toshiba will immediately begin licensed production of lifts with no machine rooms as developed by Kone. In accordance with the agreement, Toshiba has the sole right to produce and market the lifts in Japan as well as a right to market them alongside Kone in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. Kone does not reveal the amount of the licensing fee but the value of the lifts produced by Toshiba is estimated to be hundreds of millions of Fmk a year. In future the cooperation will be expanded to escalators, express lifts and servicing. Kone says the cooperation is an important strategic move and success factor since the number of lift manufacturers will diminish from the present ten to five within 5-10 years. The future lift and escalator markets are in Asia.
