Kosovo on the brink, again
Article Abstract:
Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic continues to adopt a very defiant stance towards NATO. He has undertaken an offensive against ethnic Albanian separatists in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, with forces that the agreement in Oct 1998 had stated would remain in barracks, and has also ordered the departure of William Walker, who heads the team of international monitors in Kosovo. It is possible that Milosevic is taking a confrontational approach because he believes that European governments are not really willing to undertake air strikes. There is a danger that he will over-estimate his own strength, with very serious repercussions for the region.

Will Slobodan Milosevic fall?
Article Abstract:
Yugoslav leader, Slobodan Milosevic, has been used as guarantor of peace plans by the US at the same time as the US is leading efforts to cut him off internationally. Milosevic's position in Yugoslavia has weakened and the remainder of Yugoslavia will be affected by the outcome. Milosevic appears unlikely to give in to US demands on issues such as the treatment of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo province. He has created problems and then represented himself as a solution to those problems, and this trick is becoming less effective.
