Last-minute rush of bids to beat Millennium deadline
Article Abstract:
The Millennium Commission received many last-minute applications for funding for schemes to mark the Millennium as the deadline for making applications approached. Some applications are for schemes which have earlier been rejected, while others are completely new applications. The commission is not permitted to openly encourage bids, but has made it known that it is looking for a more even distribution of funding.

Worries over British Gas 'exploiting' Millennium site
Article Abstract:
British Gas is thought to be taking advantage of millenium funding by choosing the Greenwich site for its Millenium Exhibition so that it does not have to pay for the huge clean-up costs which it would otherwise have incurred. British Gas has already applied for financial aid from the government to help with this operation, and is now seeking financial help from the English Partnerships organisation.

Heritage fund turns down National Maritime Museum
Article Abstract:
The National Maritime Museum has failed in an attempt to win an 8 million pounds sterling lottery fund grant. The HMG feels that the proposed redevelopment of Neptune Hal courtyard is not of high enough quality, although the scheme has been commended by English Heritage, along with other local groups and societies.
