Lawsuit shines a spotlight on Heiwa, low-profile maker of pachinko machines
Article Abstract:
Heiwa Corp.'s stocks have declined slightly since it was named in a lawsuit along with Sega Enterprises Ltd. The lawsuit stems from allegations of breach of trust by several former executives who noted that they were fired for attempting to block Heiwa founder Kenkichi Nakajima's plan to sell his controlling to Sega Enterprises. The news of the lawsuit have not spurred a high-profile takeover of Heiwa by other Japanese investors. Moreover, analysts encourage Heiwa's shareholders to retain their holdings in the country's largest pachinko manufacturer.

Minneapolis, MN-based CyberOptics Corp. has filed a suit against giant Japanese firm Yamaha Motor Corp. for breach of contract and patent violations. The small US firm accuses its former business partner of misappropriating its key technologies through a common Japanese tactic known as 'patent flooding.' Yamaha has countersued for defamation. The case has attracted the attention of the US Trade Representative's Office, which is quite concerned about the patent flooding problem.
