Article Abstract:

The implications of JapanEs proposal to open the doors of its legal profession to legal firms from all over the world are discussed. The amendments will be effective from April 2005. In the meantime, the foreign law firms have already started planning collaborations and joint ventures.

The huge amount of twenty billion Yen awarded to the former employee of Nichia Corp. by the Tokyo district court is reported. Corporate sectors of Japan are hoping for a revision of current patent law to control rewards from suits filed by dissatisfied researchers.
