The US plans to join a few other countries in issuing indexed-linked debt, in which principal and interest are tied to inflation. The bonds will give investors an inflation-risk-free choice, create an incentive to control inflation, and provide an estimate of market expectations of inflation.

The dollar's recent rise in value came after news of job growth in Mar 1995. Most economists believe that the dollar will reach above 100 Japanese yen in value. However, the dollar should eventually decline because the US inflation rate is likely to stay above the rates of Germany and Japan.
