Optical computers which read information from light beams rather than memory chips are faster and more efficient than standard computers. They not only process information faster, they are also capable of parallel processing, the ability to process two things at once.

Energy taxes can help reduce the budget deficit and would be beneficial for the environment, but they can be politically volatile, as Pres Clinton is finding. Critics say that energy taxes would be bad for employment and competitiveness, but that has been overstated.
