Link with the future

Article Abstract:

The Link 2000+ programme has been referred to European ministers, a project which details the deployment of datalink communications for controllers and pilots in order to address capacity contraints in the region. Eurocontrol is coordinating with airlines, air traffic service providers and industry in developing the programme. It calls for the deployment of air to ground datalinks based on the aeronautical telecommunications network.

Slow progress on new routes

Article Abstract:

Russia initiated a united air traffic system in the latter part of the 1990s, a programme which was expected to be completed by 2005. Due to developments in world aviation, however, the programme was modified. The new developments include the requirements for trans-polar and trans- Russian route to connect North America and Southeast Asia. The modifications include the installation of a new air traffic management system.

Article Abstract:

Austro Control, Austria's air traffic control authority, has finished shifting to a new air traffic control system in Jun 2000. The migration program involved 57 new working positions due to the replacement of all the controller working positions in the operations room and the installation of additional working positions to support the system. The equipment comprises an Operator Display System and Eurocontrol standards.
