Londoners demonstrate concern for their city
Article Abstract:
Residents of London, England, have a wide range of concerns, including pollution, the poor quality of the public transport system and the lack of an elected body for the city. These issues were raised at the recent Evening Standard newspaper debate on London in the 21st century. Environment secretary John Gummer was forced to face extensive criticism, to which he responded by introducing a report on urban-design quality in London. Many ideas were put forward, and this debate is set to continue in other forums.

... but London planners think it is 'backward-looking.' (criticism of plans for London Millennium Tower)
Article Abstract:
Plans by Trafalgar House to develop a Millennium Tower on the former site of the Baltic Exchange in the City of London have attracted mixed views. Most recently, criticism has been expressed by the London Planning Advisory Committee, which feels that the structure, designed by Foster and Partners, is not forward-looking and is not sufficiently innovative. This body feels that the development is not in line with efforts to make London environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.
