Longer store hours in Germany

Article Abstract:

Germany has opened up the retail sector by introducing longer store hours in a bid to spark economic growth. An old 1950's worker protection law was scrapped so stores could remain open after 8 p.m. and at their discretion. It has been observed that late night shoppers purchase more but it is too soon to see the effects of the new regulation in the state retail sales statistics.
