Looking good, working better: Chris Wilkinson Architects' HQ for vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson emphasizes practicalities rather than visual effects
Article Abstract:
The new headquarters building for Dyson Appliances at Malmesbury was designed by Chris Wilkinson Architects. The HQ combines manufacturing, distribution, management operations and research and development. The plans included the refurbishment and extension of the existing building. The original block was reclad and an entrance pavilion links old and new, featuring a pond and tensile-fabric canopy with frameless glazing. The offices and R&D laboratories feature displacement ventilation and solar gain is minimized by north-facing glazing.
