Losing Jasztel may mar Matav's position
Article Abstract:
Magyar Tavkozlesi Vallalat Rt.'s (Matav) failure to acquire rival Jasztel Rt. could have long-term implications to its market position, analysts said. Because of the ruling, Matav, which is majority owned by a consortium of Germany's Deutsche Telekom and US-based Ameritech, could stand to lose its other potential takeover targets, such as the assets of Hungarian Telephone & Cable Corp. (HTCC). According to Laszlo Makay, equities analysts at Budapest, Hungary-based Bankar Securities, state authorities could rule again to reject another deal that Matav plans. Matav's aggressive plan to expand its market reach will also be delayed as a result of its failure to get regulatory approval for its purchase of Jasztel.
