Louis Michel, Belgium's moralistic diplomat
Article Abstract:
Belgian foreign minister, Louis Michel, speaks a number of foreign languages, but is not noted for being diplomatic. He sees the Freedom party in Austria as neo-Nazi, and is also critical of the Austrian chancellor. He argues that other European Union (EU) members have a right to criticize Austria, though Austria should not leave the EU. There could be problems if criticism leads to greater support for Austria. Michel's father was jailed by Nazis, so his views are sincere even if they may not be right.
