Malaysian justice
Article Abstract:
Former Malaysian deputy prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has been sentenced to six years jail for abuse of power, and this sentence is perceived by many observers as political rather than to do with justice. Anwar appears to represent the new face of Asia, with his mentions of democracy and justice, while Mahathir Mohamad, prime minister, appears to represent the old face. The shortcomings of Malaysia, such as lack of freedom for the media, have been underlined by the trial of Anwar, and there has been a movement for change in Malaysia as a result of the trial.
