M&A go-slow in chemical sector
Article Abstract:
Merger and acquisition activity in the European chemicals industry is not expected to increase in the near future in spite of improved pre-tax profits for all the leading firms in 1st qtr 1995. Observers claim individual results only look good because they are being compared with the company's poor previous financial position. Many believe chemicals companies will not consider acquisitions for some time as they are using their profits to repay debts. They are also expected to be more selective in future with their choice of acquisition targets than previously.
