L. James Burlingame, CFPIM

Article Abstract:

The late Jim Burlingame had an excellent career as a businessman and as a member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS). He worked for 37 years with Twin Disc Inc, starting as a foreman, until he became the company's executive vice-president and director. Jim was also a pioneer in the field of material requirements planning (MRP). He was instrumental in the publication of APICS of the book about MRP in 1971. He also served as the society's vice-president for education and research and as chairman of its Strategic Planning Committee. The society twice gave Jim its Presidential Award during his lifetime.

The snakeman

George VanHorn specializes in milking the venom of poisonous snakes at Reptile World Serpentarium in Florida. Although he has been bitten many times and almost died, VanHorn continues to do his work because the venom he collects is vital for making anti-venoms and other drugs.
