Marks & Spencer steps up changes as directors retire

Article Abstract:

Marks & Spencer PLC announced the retirements of two of its most senior directors. Fifty-seven year-old Lord Stone will retire as Marks's clothing business director in the UK. James Benfield will also retire, although his departure came as more of a surprise than Lord Stone's. Lord Stone is said to be planning to spend more time to the House of Lords, of which he is a working peer.

Marks & Spencer falls after Green ends takeover bid

Shares in Marks & Spencer fall after retail executive and entrepreneur Martin Green drops his bid to acquire the U.K. chain. Green, who had been lobbying Marks & Spencer shareholders to put pressure on the company's Board, is expected to keep an eye on the company with the hopes of taking the opportunity to acquire it in the future.
