McElwain bats for new DTC ad rules

Article Abstract:

LBJ.FRB Communications Inc. has appointed Mark McElwain, as vice president responsible for overseeing its direct-to-consumer health promotion. McElwain's position calls for the former commissioner of the Pharmaceutical Advertising Advisory Board to represent LBJ.FRB Communications in ensuring that the direct-to-consumer advertising placed by pharmaceutical companies are accurate and effective. Pharmaceutical companies are prevented to reveal the ailment that a product treats in their advertisements under existing Health Canada laws.

Agencies take Bay Street

The Internet and mergers have made Canadian marketing companies a hot commodity in the country's stock market. For this reason, these marketing firms are taking advantage of the money that they can raise as publicly traded companies. Some of these companies include Cossette Communication- Marketing, based in Quebec City, Envoy Communications Group, MDC Communications Corp and Mosaic Group Inc, all with headquarters in Toronto, Ontario.

PJ's Playland work is toast of Billis

Article Abstract:

Palmer Jarvis DDB won nine prizes during the Outdoor Advertising Assn of Canada's 20th annual Billi Awards in Feb 25, 1999. The honors were mostly for Palmer Jarvis' work for Playland Amusement Park. The Playland advertisements bagged three golds in the overall campaign, large format single and street level categories. Palmer Jarvis' won a fourth gold for a transit campaign for TV12.
