Merger rumors surround BCI and UniCredito

A rumoured merger between UniCredito Italiano and Banca Commerciale Italiana (BCI) would form the largest lending institution in Italy. UniCredito and BCI are two of the top banks in Italy. It is widely believed that UniCredito could make a merger offer with BCI in the near future, especially with the apparently close end of merger negotiations between BCI and Banca di Roma.

San Paolo-IMI mulls merger with INA
Article Abstract:
San Paolo-IMI SpA announced that it is studying the possibility of merging with Instituto Nazionale delle Assicurazioni SpA (INA). Such a merger would open the door to a new series of mergers and acquisitions in the Italian financial industry. San Paolo is the largest bank in Italy and the largest shareholder in INA. The bank owns 8.6% of INA.
